Spring Wildflowers in the Columbia River Gorge | Portland Family Photographer

With 22mph winds and only 61 degrees, this family remained adventurous and easy-going during their Columbia River Gorge session. Dad brought a guitar and honestly, it changed the set the whole vibe of the shoot for the better when he started playing. Both parents sang and hummed and it was absolutely magical among the wildflowers at sunset.

This shoot is the perfect example of why I encourage all families to simply go with the flow, not just during the photo session, but preparing for that evening as well. This sweet 22 month old's bedtime was at the time of the shoot and only had a 30 minute nap earlier that day - why is it when it's Photoshoot Day, the kids never nap like normal? The same exact thing happened when my family was getting our pictures taken - first time my daughter ever skipped her nap and I was so worried how it would go!

But when the parents stop stressing and just go with it, they find that it all works out. Bringing snacks is a great help but usually the kids know that something new and exciting is happening - and who is this stranger photographer lady - that they will stay awake and alert for the session.

And I promise that it is all worth it for that sunset glow. The soft lighting elevates your images in the softest and most flattering way. A day (or two) being off schedule with nap & bed time will be worth the effort and you'll forget all about the struggle soon because you'll have a lifetime to cherish these photos. This baby, for example, fell asleep on the 1.5hr drive back home and transferred easily to bed, her mama said.

As your Columbia River Gorge photographer, I'll keep an eye on wind levels, rain, and when the wildflowers are at peak season so you don't need to worry about it - and we'll communicate the details as your session gets nearer to make sure all goes to plan. And if not
